Pilgrimage to St David's
The year is 1416, and the Freemen of Gwent have returned from France where they fought victoriously under King Henry V’s banner at Agincourt the previous year. However, following their King’s example, they feel the need to atone for their sins and give thanks for their safe deliverance from the French.
Come and meet these fierce men-at-arms and their families in the warmth of their camp near their homes in Wales, and learn about their way of life, worship and their journey on pilgrimage to this sacred spot.
Battle of Evesham
Travel back to 1265 with re-enactments groups from all over the country who will entertain you with various demonstrations of medieval living.
Visitors are invited to step back in time to the 13th Century when the Battle of Evesham is re-enacted. The free to attend event, takes place in the Heart of Evesham, featuring a medieval festival and camp with life-demonstrations of cookery, weapons and medicine, plus the main battle re-enactment. Thousands of residents and visitors are expected to attend, to experience life in the 13th century and witness a battle which was instrumental in leading to the democracy we know today.
The action-packed weekend will include hundreds of re-enactors fighting ‘to the death’ on both days. The Battle of Evesham Grand Parade, with mounted knights in full armor will wind its way through the town the Saturday. On Evesham’s Crown Meadow, visitors can watch medieval musicians and dancing at the camp, along with craftsmen demonstrations and medieval cookery.
Displays of 13th Century medicine, weapon demonstrations and the chance to see a mini Trebuchet in action will educate and intrigue the whole family. In addition, next to the camp, there will be falconry and equestrian displays, treasure trails and children’s activities. Various stalls and food outlets will be selling a range of dishes and snacks plus there will be a licenced bar.

Battle of Shrewsbury
The Battle of Shrewsbury was fought on 21 July 1403 between King Henry IV and the rebellious factions led by the Percy Family. This family day out will culminate in a re-enactment of part of the battle on the original battlefield. During the day there will be living history, including traditional crafts and cookery, with activities to try your hand at throughout the day.
Tintern Abbey

Wood-smoke from the cooking fire, the smell of food cooking, archers loosing at the butts, squires repairing armour, and the clash of steel on steel all combine to transport us back to an earlier time, bringing history to life!
Beaumaris Mediaeval Extravaganza
Come and see Beaumaris Castle transported back to medieval times, where knights, lords and ladies, musicians and jesters take you back to what life was like at the time in Wales.
Experience medieval life at its best. Visit the medieval encampment, learn about arrow making, leather work, medieval cooking, weapons, games and more.
There'll be demonstrations about armour and how it’s worn, and how weapons were used against armoured knights; how archers were feared by all on the battlefield, and how to shoot a knight; about clothing and how it was used to show status and wealth.
Look out for the castle executioner, with his grim stories of torture and examples of equipment used back in the dark days of medieval punishments.
Watch the knights train in the fight arena and get ready for battle, and look out for the drunken archer.
Join in with drill training and the Knights School for young and old.
And the castle jester will amuse you with his funny jokes and death defying tricks.
The day will culminate in a main battle between Lord Gerard de Rhodes and Captain Nicholas Horton, accompanied by their men and archers. Things won't be going well for Captain Horton, and he'll need to recruit more knights from the crowd! Children aged thirteen and under will be invited to join the Captain’s ranks to help defeat Sir Gerard and his knights.
Brecon Mediaeval Festival
Following on from the success of last year’s festival we’re delighted to be involved with the Brecon Medieval Festival over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.
Highlights include:
A combat arena - Medieval Combat Wales, The Company of the Raven, The Freemen of Gwent and Blaeddau Du will all be showcasing their battle skills.
Food and drink - Feast on a delicious variety of food and drink
Music and entertainment - Medieval instruments, jesters, drums, demonstrations
Vikings - Blaeddu, Welsh Viking group, will be setting up a raiding camp on the Bishop Williamson garden at the bottom of the hill
Marketplace - visit our medieval marketplace for a range of bespoke crafts and gifts
Living history and education - medieval surgery, weapons displays, educational lectures
Murder mystery - medieval themed murder mystery evening. A ticketed event with limited availability
Whittington Castle Siege of 1404
The year is 1404, the Welsh rebel Owain Glyndwr is laying waste to towns and castles up and down the border, his sights are now set on Whittington. Can the brave English defenders drive him off or will the daring Welsh rebels win the day? Free admission, regular parking charges apply. 10:00 – 16:00.

Beaumaris Castle’s Easter Eggstravaganza
Beaumaris Castle’s Easter Eggstravaganza is back for a fun weekend for all!
The castle welcomes warrior knights who'll be portraying life as it was back in medieval Wales.
Come and join in with the fun, and learn how knights prepared for battle, how armour was worn and how weapons were used against an armoured knight.
Watch the archers show off their skills with a bow and discover why they were so feared on the battlefield.
Join the circus workshops for young and old to try some new tricks, and watch the castle jester as he entertains you with his death defying tricks that will wow the crowd.
Listen to the musicians as they roam the castle playing beautiful plygain music, and keep an eye out for the birds of prey, with flying demonstrations and talks on how they were used to hunt.
Look out for the castle’s executioner, with his gruesome tools of torture and stories about how the truth was extracted from prisoners.
There'll also be an Easter Egg Hunt on both days, where you can find the clues, work out the answer and escape the castle to claim your prize.

Easter at Beaumaris Castle
Come and see the Freemen of Gwent in their camp on Good Friday and Easter Saturday - for the chance to explore and chat to people about their various crafts.
At different times throughout the day knights and squires will be honing their skills and archers will be at the butts loosing arrows.
Talks will take place in the main arena exploring:
Armour and how it's worn, and how weapons are used against an armoured knight
How archers were feared by all on the battlefield, and how to shoot a knight
Clothing and how it was used to show status and wealth
Dressing an archer.
